Taipei City Police are stepping up efforts to crack down on gang activity in the city.
Shilin District Police arrested 40 members of the Bamboo Union after a crackdown on three major gangs, according to their press release today.
Those three factions include the Ren tang ming ren 仁堂明仁 gang, the Ming-Ren 明仁 gang, and the Ping-tang 平堂 gangs.
Police targeted the Ren tang ming ren group for carrying out telecommunications fraud, using the guise of fake investment to reel in victims.
The Ming-ren gang was involved in entrapping foreigners to come to Taiwan to assist in embezzling and other illegal activities.
The Ping-tang group was involved in gang-rape and stabbing.
This comes as Bamboo Union activity has recently attracted much attention as they select a new leader following the death and funeral procession of the former ringleader.
