The Information, Communications, and Electronic Force Command is denying claims by Beijing's Ministry of State Security that it launched cyberattacks targeting China's Internet infrastructure to push a "Taiwan independence" agenda.
According to the command, China took pictures from the public domain to back up its assertion that the four Taiwanese service members were behind the alleged cyberattacks ..
.. and the claims are "an ungrounded fabrication aimed at intimidating the Taiwanese public."
The command says its mission is to maintain information relating to national defense and ensure cybersecurity, just like its counterparts in other democratic countries.
The statement follows claims by China that the command works for "Taiwan independence separatists," overseeing cyberattacks that include sending a large number of phishing messages and propaganda to spread fake news on "mainstream social networking platforms."
Beijing's Ministry of State Security says it has evident that the actions orchestrated by the command were blatant attempts at pushing the Democratic Progressive Party's "Taiwan independence" agenda targeting the social networking app WeChat.
