The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office has indicted 13 people in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found at the meeting place of a Buddhist group in the city's Da'an District last year.
Prosecutors says the 13 suspects have been charged with crimes including causing bodily injuries leading to death, complicity in causing bodily injuries leading to death, and coercion.
Those charged included the group's spiritual leader, the Buddhism writer Wang Yun and actor Lee Wei.
Prosecutors say Lee turned state's witness in exchange for a reduced sentence.
The case dates back to July of last year, after the body of a woman was found in a residential property which was used a meeting place for the religious group.
A subsequent autopsy determined that the woman died of a medical condition involving the rapid dissolution of damaged or injured skeletal muscle - which is most often caused by direct traumatic injury.
Police later determined that three of those charged dumped the body in the residential building after pushing it in a trolley from a restaurant where the religious group had been holding a study session.
