Media celebrity Clara Chou and Formosa TV are ordered by the Supreme Court to pay Zhao Shao-kang 2.2 million NT in compensations on defamation charges.
The ruling is final.
According to prosecutors, Chou, also known as Zhou Yu-kou (周玉蔻), posted comments on her Facebook in September, 2022, calling Zhao a "devil" who had engaged in domestic violence and abandoned his wife and sons.
She repeated the accusations two days later on a Formosa TV's talk show.
Zhao filed a defamation lawsuit against Zhou and the TV station, demanding 10 million NT in compensations and that the comments and the TV program be removed.
The Taipei District Court ruled that Zhou should pay out 200-thousand NT in compensations as she had failed to verify the information and damaged Zhao's reputation, while Formosa TV should pay 2 million as it produced and aired the program should bear joint liability.
