Norovirus Outbreak Causes 300,000 Diarrhea Cases in One Week

The Centers for Disease Control is reporting a surge in diarrhea cases...

It said there were over 302 thousand outpatient and emergency visits between
February 2nd and 8th -- the highest weekly count in a decade.

Over the past four weeks, 398 diarrhea cluster outbreaks were recorded -- the
most in five years.

And nearly 99 percent of tested cases have been linked to norovirus.

The outbreaks were primarily reported in restaurants and hotels.

CDC officials note that while case numbers are high, no large-scale outbreaks
have occurred, and the situation is expected to improve soon.

Health authorities urge the public to practice proper hand hygiene, ensure
food safety, and fully cook seafood to prevent further infections.
