The heads of the five government branches have reached a consensus in key
areas after talks with President Lai Ching-te.

The five branch heads agreed to set up a platform to improve communications
and cooperation to enable them to advance public policies and reinforce
democracy and freedom.

They also agreed that while they have their own duties and checks and
balances, they still need to respect each other.

Speaking after the meeting, Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Meng-an
said while the heads of the heads of the Cabinet, the Legislative Yuan, the
Judicial Yuan, the Examination Yuan and the Control Yuan believe competition
among political parties is allowed ..

... but they also believe that the country cannot be sacrificed by such
competition as Taiwan is faced with a fast-changing world.

The meeting was called by Lai to discuss issues related to Taiwan and the
political and economic challenges it faces at home and abroad and focused on
the on-going stand-off Legislative Yuan.
