Former Nantou County Magistrate Lee Chao-ching (李朝卿) has been sentenced to 21 years and 2 months in prison for corruption.
Prosecutors say Lee took kickbacks from public works projects, including typhoon reconstruction, and even from small contracts like sports event souvenirs.
Investigators revealed Lee demanded 10-percent of project budgets, including 9.46 million NT from a 94.6-million-NT road repair project after Typhoon Morakot.
He was convicted of 81 counts of corruption, receiving over 5.3 million NT in bribes.
The court criticized Lee for undermining disaster recovery and public trust, noting his actions worsened risks in Nantou’s typhoon-hit areas.
The Supreme Court upheld the ruling, making it final.
