MAC revokes citizenship of 3 individuals over possession of Chinese IDs

The Mainland Affairs Council says it has revoked the citizenship of three individuals who have been found to hold Chinese I-Ds.
Council spokesman Liang Wen-chieh said the three individuals include taekwondo athlete Lee Dong-hsien and Su Shih-en, who displayed a Chinese I-D card in a recent YouTube video about Beijing's "united front" tactics.
Liang says possession of Chinese I-Ds violates the Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area.
Under that act, Taiwan citizens are prohibited from having Chinese household registration or a passport.
Those found to have violated the act can have their Taiwan household registration cancelled, lose their citizenship and forfeit related rights, such as their eligibility to participate in elections or hold public office.
Liang has not released any details concerning how it was verified that the three individuals hold Chinese I-Ds.
The Mainland Affairs Council began investigating allegations of Taiwanese citizens holding Chinese I-D cards after claims made by Taiwanese YouTubers Pa Chiung and Chen Po-yuan in a two-part YouTube video released last month.
