Taiwan's military showcased its readiness Thursday with a naval drill near Kaohsiung's Tsoying Harbor, simulating a response to approaching Chinese vessels.
The exercise is part of the Ministry of National Defense's annual pre-Lunar New Year operations to demonstrate defense capabilities during the holiday.
Two Tuo Chiang-class corvettes and four missile boats simulated engaging enemy ships at speeds over twenty knots, while missile vehicles provided backup from shore.
The drill mirrors the Navy's routine patrols countering Chinese "gray zone" activities near Taiwan.
The Navy also displayed its new Da Wu-class rescue ship, which is set to be officially commissioned this year.
Major General Chen Ming-feng (陳明(峰)) said the military will continue enhancing drills to prepare for potential wartime scenarios.
