The Taipei District Court has ordered the detention of former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je following a third bail hearing.
The court also revoked bail for Core Pacific Group Chairman Shen Ching-jing, Ko's former mayoral office head Lee Wen-tsung and Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying.
The rulings all came after a nearly five hour hearing.
According to the court, it reversed its earlier bail rulings due to the ongoing possibility of collusion between the four defendants and witnesses.
The court say that decision was made "out of respect for the judicial hierarchy and in consideration of the evidence presented by the prosecutors regarding the necessity of detention" ..
.. and it concluded that the four defendants were implicated in serious offenses, with a significant risk of fleeing the country, evidence tampering, and collusion.
The Taiwan People's Party has slammed the court ruling - accusing President Lai Ching-te of interfering in the judicial process and urging him to "cease using judicial tools to target political rivals."
The party also slammed the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office for continuing to request detention based on "speculation" about witness collusion.
