Taipei City's Urban Regeneration Office has announced the completion of its
100th subsidized elevator installation in older apartment buildings.

The milestone project took place at the 30-year-old Futai Community, located
in an alley off Section 5 of Zhongxiao East Road in Xinyi District..

...and was made possible by first-floor residents who demolished part of
their units to make space for the elevator.

The subsidy program, launched in 2015, aims to extend the lifespan of older
buildings and meet the needs of elderly residents and those with
disabilities.

Last year, Taipei relaxed application rules, allowing a simple majority of
unit owners in single-building complexes to apply.

This change increased applications, with 19 cases submitted last year alone.



Six other buildings in the area have also applied for similar subsidies.
