Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang to run for 2nd term

Keelung Mayor Xie Guo-liang has declared his intention to run for the 2026
Keelung mayoral election.

He said today that he had considered serving just one four-year term, but
after surviving the recall voting on October 13th this year, he realized that
if he had only two years left, many of his plans for the city would be
impossible to complete.

Those plans include investment projects, infrastructure improvements, and the
overall transformation of Keelung's urban environment.

The Mayor said he will not only seek re-election, but firmly rejects the
proposal of replacing the current railroad with the MRT system.

Noting that having the MRT should not mean losing the railroad, Xie said
under his administration, residents should not and will not be forced to
choose between the two.
