In news from and about Taiwan this morning,
The stalemate in the Legislature Yuan over the central government's 2025 general budget plan is likely to come to an end after the Cabinet agreed to opposition lawmakers' demands.
The agreement was reached after Premier Cho Jung-tai, and other Cabinet officials met with the heads of the D-P-P, K-M-T and Taiwan People's Party caucus' for another round of negotiations.
It was the second such meeting in a month, as the Cabinet has been working to break the deadlock.
According to the agreement, the Cabinet will revise its 3.33-trillion N-T budget proposal and increase funding needed to support compensation to Indigenous peoples for a logging ban.
Speaking to reporters, K-M-T legislative caucus whip Fu Kun-chi said his party has agreed to vote in favor of the budget bill following the Cabinet's decision.
That vote will take place later today in the Legislature Yuan.
It means the 2025 general bill is expected to finally pass its first reading and will then be sent various legislative committees for more detailed deliberation.
