A satellite co-developed by Taiwan and Japan has successfully launched into orbit.
The "Onglaisat" was carried into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in the U-S state of Florida.
The Taiwan Space Agency said the CubeSat will be deployed into a 410-kilometer low Earth orbit in approximately one month to begin its test mission - which is slated to last for six months.
The agency says the "Onglaisat" will be utilized to validate the key technologies of the newly developed remote sensing system and will also test high-resolution data collection and image compression technologies.
Those technologies have been developed by the National Science and Technology Council in collaboration with the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute.
The satellite itself was co-developed by the Taiwan Space Agency Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, along with several start-up companies.
