Land Warning Now Includes Miaoli, as Typhoon Krathon Continues Approach
Posted on 2024-10-02 14:32:13
Miaoli has been added to the Central Weather Administration's land warning,
as Typhoon Krathon continues its approach.

The CWA says 13 cities and counties are now covered under the warning, with
Krathon still slowly heading towards southwestern Taiwan.

As of around 1pm, the storm is still hovering about 130 kilometers southwest
of Kaohsiung, moving in a north-northeasterly direction at speeds of
8-kilometers per hour.

The storm still has a radius of 220 km and is packing maximum sustained winds
of 173-kilometers-an-hour, with gusts of up to 209-kilometers-an-hour.

Forecasters say Krathon's outer bands have already reached land south of
Yunlin and Taitung, posing a threat to areas south of Miaoli.

They say rainfall in Hualien and Taitung will continue, and rainfall in
southern Taiwan and regions along the northern coast of Keelung will
intensify as well.

The CWA also notes that Krathon's center has begunt o shift towards the
northeast, and the storm is expected to continue weakening.

But the typhoon will make likely still make landfall in southwestern Taiwan
tomorrow, and its structure will remain largely intact, meaning strong winds
and heavy rain will continue to impact the island.
