Land Warning Now Includes Miaoli, as Typhoon Krathon Continues Approach

Miaoli has been added to the Central Weather Administration's land warning, as Typhoon Krathon continues its approach.
The CWA says 13 cities and counties are now covered under the warning, with Krathon still slowly heading towards southwestern Taiwan.
As of around 1pm, the storm is still hovering about 130 kilometers southwest of Kaohsiung, moving in a north-northeasterly direction at speeds of 8-kilometers per hour.
The storm still has a radius of 220 km and is packing maximum sustained winds of 173-kilometers-an-hour, with gusts of up to 209-kilometers-an-hour.
Forecasters say Krathon's outer bands have already reached land south of Yunlin and Taitung, posing a threat to areas south of Miaoli.
They say rainfall in Hualien and Taitung will continue, and rainfall in southern Taiwan and regions along the northern coast of Keelung will intensify as well.
The CWA also notes that Krathon's center has begunt o shift towards the northeast, and the storm is expected to continue weakening.
But the typhoon will make likely still make landfall in southwestern Taiwan tomorrow, and its structure will remain largely intact, meaning strong winds and heavy rain will continue to impact the island.
