Former-FAT Chairman Sentenced to 14 Years for Hollowing Out Company

The Taipei District Court has sentenced the former chairman of the now defunct Far Eastern Air Transport Corporation to 14 years in prison after finding him guilty of embezzling corporate funds and other crimes.
Zhang Gang-wei was also handed another one-year sentence that can be commuted to a fine and is illegal gains of 3-billion N-T has been ordered confiscated.
Along with embezzlement, Zhang was also indicted on charges fraud, special breach of trust, and violations of the Securities and Exchange Act.
All of the charges involved his use of the airline to financially support other personal businesses unrelated to aviation.
The airline ceased operations in 2020 and had its air operator certificate revoked.
The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office has said the carrier's problems were in part related to the appointment of unscrupulous managers, including Zhang, who misappropriated funds from the company.
