The Food and Drug Administration has lifted import bans on more Japanese food products.
The lifting of the ban means that almost all produce from five Japanese prefectures affected by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster are now be allowed to enter the Taiwan market.
According to the F-D-A, the only items that remain blocked from being imported are those from the five areas banned from being circulated in Japan.
The move means that items including mushrooms, the meat of wild birds and other wild animals, and foraged vegetables will now be permitted to enter Taiwan, along with the other produce permitted since 2022.
F-D-A Deputy Director-General Lin Jin-fu says food items imported from the five prefectures will have to present radiation and origin certificates and undergo batch-by-batch inspections.
The amendment to the regulations permitting the imports was made public 60 days ago to allow for feedback and the F-D-A says it didn't receive any comments of note during the period.
