Lawyers representing Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je say he will not appeal against a Taipei District Court ruling made last week ordering his detention amid the ongoing Core Pacific City curruption investigation.
Ko's three defense lawyers said Ko had been "clear" before the detention hearing... that he would not want to "cause difficulties for the court" and would not protest the court's decision if detained.
According to the statement, Ko has also repeatedly said that he will "fully cooperate" with the on-going investigation.
Under the Code of Criminal Procedure, Ko can be detained for a maximum of four months without being formally charged.
Ko is currently being held the Taipei Detention Center in New Taipei's Tucheng District.
He is only allowed to communicate with lawyers while prosecutors continue their investigation into alleged corruption dating back to his second term as Taipei mayor from 2018 to 2022.
