The Hualien District Court has awarded 23-million N-T in compensation to the victims of 2021 Taroko Express train crash.
The eight carriage train derailed after colliding with a construction truck that had fallen off its perch and onto the tracks, causing Taiwan's deadliest crash in 70 years.
The accident killed 49 people and left 200 others injured.
The court ordered contractors to pay compensation to the Taiwan Railway Corporation, which filed a civil case holding them partly liable for compensating victims and their families.
The railway corporation had initially been seeking 170-million N-T in compensation from the contractors after it paid 15.7-million N-T to the relatives of each of the deceased, and also covered other medical and funeral expenses.
However, the court also said the railway corporation was partly to blame for the accident due to poor supervision.
