Deputy Transport Minister Chen Yen-po has been appointed acting minister.
The move follows the resignation of former minister Li Meng-yen on Monday following revelations of his involvement in a long-term extra-marital affair.
According to Cabinet spokesperson Chen Shih-kai, a new pick for the top post at the ministry will be made public at a later date.
Chen Yen-po has served in the transportation ministry for over two decades.
He has experience in the Department of Railways and Highways, the Taiwan Area National Expressway Engineering Bureau, the Highway Bureau and also served as chief secretary of the ministry.
Li Meng-yen tendered his resignation after a post made on the P-T-T online forum claimed he had been engaged in an extra-marital affair with a woman living in New Taipei for as long as 10 years.
The Premier accepted the resignation request shortly after it was submitted.
