US Select Subcommittee on COVID-19 Pandemic Chair Arrives in Taiwan

U-S Congressman Brad Wenstrup, who serves as the chair of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, is in Taiwan for a three-day visit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Wenstrup is being accompanied by staffers from the subcommittee and is scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and other senior government officials.
Talks are expected to focus on issues relating to Taiwan's COVID-19 pandemic response mechanism, public health infrastructure, plans to combat future pandemics and Taiwan's bid to join World Health Organization.
The foreign ministry calls Wenstrump a "staunch friend of Taiwan" who has pushed forTaiwan's participation at the World Health Assembly for many years.
The ministry adds the congressman was also one of the signatories to an open letter calling on President Joe Biden to donate COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan in 2021.
