Residents Receive Earthquake Alerts Before Shaking Begins

After recent earthquakes off the coasts of Yilan and Hualien, many residents
reported receiving national alerts before the shaking started.

The Central Weather Administration confirms that these alerts are functioning
as intended, with no changes made to the alert standards.

However, if any issues, such as underestimation or false alarms, are
detected, the system will be optimized.

The CWA's Seismological Center Director Wu Jian-fu (吳健富) explains that the
epicenters of these quakes were in highly monitored areas, which contributed
to the timely alerts.

Wu says the administration will continue to review and improve the alert
system to ensure that people can quickly grasp the situation during future
earthquakes.
