MAC Refusing to Accept China's Description of Kinmen Speedboat Incident

The Mainland Affairs Council is dismissing China's description of the Kinmen speedboat incident as a "malicious collision."
Council spokesman Liang Wen-chieh says his office believes China's labeling of the incident is "unnecessary."
Liang had been asked to comment on the Chinese version of the events -- Beijing says Taiwan coast guard personnel employed a "brutal and dangerous" method to treat mainland fishermen that resulted in casualties.
But the Mainland Affairs Council spokesman says his office opposes any any labeling of the incident by outsiders... he added that because the incident has been resolved, the government hoped both sides could now "come closer together and avoid returning to such a tense situation."
Negotiations to settle outstanding issues related to the incident took place earlier this week...
It included reaching a consensus on matters such as compensation, and the return of the vessel, and as well as the victims' bodies.
