Canadian Warship Make Taiwan Strait Transit

Canada's Defense Minister has confirmed that a Canadian warship recently
transited through the Taiwan Strait.

Bill Blair is describing the transit as a reaffirmation of Canada's
commitment to a "free, open and inclusive" Indo-Pacific.

According to Blair, "as outlined in our Indo-Pacific Strategy, Canada is
increasing the presence of the Royal Canadian Navy in the Indo-Pacific
region."

The Canadian government announced its plan for the region in 2022.

The statement comes after Canada's military said the frigate, H-M-C-S
Montreal "recently conducted a routine transit" through the Taiwan.

Neither the defense minister nor the military have said when the transit took
place.
