Tainan Seals Embankment Breach After Typhoon Floods

Tainan authorities have sealed a breach in the Bazhang River embankment that
had caused severe flooding in the city.

They say as of this morning they've closed the 15-meter gap...

...that opened during the Typhoon Thursday and sent floodwaters surging
through Houbi and Yanshui districts.

Meanwhile, they are pumping water to lower the water level in Yanshui
District.

The typhoon reportedly brought about 400 millimeters of rain to Yanshui in
just 24 hours.

The Water Resources Bureau said the heavy rainfall exceeded the flood control
capacity, leading to the breach.

They added that the city government will request the central government raise
and reinforce the Bazhang River embankment.
