Premier Talks Taiwan Doing More for Self-Defense Following Trump Comments
Posted on 2024-07-18 09:06:13
Premier Cho Jung-tai says Taiwan is willing to shoulder more responsibility
when contributing to the security of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific
region.

The statement is response to comments by Donald Trump - who told Bloomberg
Businessweek that "Taiwan should pay" America "for defense."

Speaking to reporters, Cho said the government has strived to boost
self-defense capabilities by gradually increasing its defense spending,
reinstating the one-year compulsory military service, and strengthening the
society's resilience to various challenges.

And according to Cho, he believes as long as the government continues to
demonstrate these efforts, Taiwan will receive support from more countries.
