Posted on 2024-07-11 08:16:14
The Centers for Disease Control says its plans to purchase 5.5-million doses
of the Moderna JN.1 coronavirus vaccine.

The announcement comes as the World Health Organization and countries
including the U-S and Japan, are recommending vaccines targeting the JN.1
variant.

According to the C-D-C, the JN.1 variant has been the most frequently
detected strain domestically over the past four weeks, accounting for 38-per
cent of the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases.

C-D-C Director-General Zhuang Ren-xiang says health authorities are aiming
for a 20-per cent vaccination rate across all age groups and a 40-per cent
rate for individuals aged 65 or above his year.

The C-D-C will rollout the first JN.1 coronavirus vaccine drive jointly with
a flu vaccine drive in October 1 - targeting individuals aged 65 and over,
healthcare workers, and pregnant women.

While the second JN.1 vaccine phase will begin on November 1 and that will
cover all individuals six months and older.

People aged between 50 to 64 will also be encouraged to get a flu jab
starting from November 1.
