Visiting Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the opening of a state trade office in Taiwan - calling the move a bid to enhance cooperation between two sides.
The Republican governor said Texas understands the importance of establishing an office in Taiwan... and he claimed the office would be a beacon across the entire globe about a state and a country showing the importance of their "relationship."
Abbott said he tought it was incredibly important that Texas shows solidarity with Taiwan not just for businesses, but to let the world know that "Texas stands with Taiwan."
The announcement comes after Abbott signed an Economic Development Statement of Intent with Economics Minister J.W. Kuo to strengthen economic ties.
Kuo said the deal is aimed at helping Taiwanese businesses establish a strong foothold overseas... that's to boost supply chain resilience.
Abbott is leading an economic development mission to Taiwan... he's also met with President Lai Ching-te.
