Former Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan has stepped down from his post as Straits Exchange Foundation chairman.
The move comes after the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office released him on bail of 5-million N-T this past weekend.
The foundation said Cheng resigned to "avoid disrupting" the organization' operations and "will fight to clear his name through the judicial process."
Cheng was summoned for questioning as part of an investigation into a corruption case during his two terms as Taoyuan mayor... prosecutors believe he played a pivotal role in the case currently being investigated.
Although the prosecutors' office has not released further details of the investigation reports are saying the case involves the re-designation of land use.
The DPP's anti-corruption committee is slated to meet this evening to discuss the corruption investigation into the former Taoyuan mayor and to decide whether or not to launch its own investigations into the case.
Cheng was appointed chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation in May by President Lai Ching-te.
