The Centers for Disease Control says Taiwan has entered the peak season for Japanese encephalitis, and there was one new case of the disease last week.
The CDC says it was a man in his 70s from Pingtung County, the first one this year in the county.
The man lives near high-risk places such as rice paddies and ponds.
Dengue fiver, on the other hand, seems to be subsiding as there has been no new indigenous cases of dengue fever for 4 weeks.
However, the CDC still reminds people to be aware as there were five new imported cases of dengue fever last week, four from Indonesia and 1 from Vietnam.
