Hualien's Uranus Building Demolition Begins

The collapsed Uranus Building in Hualien, known for its post-earthquake tilt
and shift, is undergoing demolition.

Heavy machinery was deployed early this morning, following a prayer ceremony
by County Magistrate Hsu Zhen-Wei and the community.

The demolition, expected to finish within two weeks, prioritizes safety and
minimal disruption.

Residents wishing to retrieve belongings are advised patience, as entry
remains restricted for safety.

The process involves a careful, top-down strategy to dismantle the structure,
safeguarding nearby buildings against potential earthquake aftershocks.

The Uranus Building, a structure with 79 units, had been a concern since the
2018 earthquake left it visibly damaged.
