Blue camp lawmakers propose to freeze electricity prices

The Legislative Yuan has not reached any resolution on stopping the electricity price hike today.
The opposition KMT and TPP legislative caucus have separately proposed that the Legislative Yuan pass a resolution to halt Taiwan Power's plan to raise electricity rates.
The Economics Ministry announced last week that TaiPower will increase its prices by an average of 11-percent on April 1st.
DPP legislative caucus whip Ko Jian-min says the Legislative Yuan decided in 2015 that electricity price deliberations must go through the Electricity Price Review Committee, and the decision was subsequently incorporated into the law.
Ko says with those regulations, it's unclear how the KMT and the TPP can block the price hike.
He adds that it's also impossible for the Legislative Yuan to establish its own electricity price review formula, amend the Electricity Act, and then call for a halt.
The KMT says its goal is for the central government to immediately review the current energy policy, while the TPP says until the government has a better energy policy, electricity prices shouldn't go up.
