Members of a visiting U-S congressional bipartisan delegation have held talks with President Tsai Ing-wen, president-elect Lai Ching-te and vice president-elect Hsiao Bi-khim.
The delegation is being lead by Representative Jack Bergman, who is a member of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee.
During their meeting, Tsai thanked the cross-party group for its continuing promotion of exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the U-S... to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
Tsai also thanked the US government and Congress for assisting Taiwan to bolster its self-defense capabilities, including passing legislation to allocate funds for foreign military aid and expedite weapon deliveries to Taiwan.
Bergman said the visit is aimed at showing continued support for Taiwan.
The American Institute in Taiwan says the congressional delegation is visiting Taiwan to discuss US-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade and investment, and other significant issues of mutual interest.
A-I-T also says the delegation's Taiwan visit is part of a larger trip to the Indo-Pacific region.
