Transport Minister on New Standards for Airport Runway Closures

Transport Minister Wang Guo-tsai says special procedures will be in place for
future airport runway closures.

The minister says the Taoyuan International Airport Corporation will be
required to submit a plan for runway closures that last more than 12 hours.

And the corporation must work with airlines to ensure flights are adjusted
accordingly.

His comment comes after the corporation released a report today on the
closure of the airport's south runway in early March for maintenance, which
caused widespread flight delays and cancellations.

The report included a list of disciplinary actions against employees who were
resonsible, as well as steps to improve its planning and coordination
procedures in the future.
