President Tsai Ing-wen says the establishment of an office by the U-S state of Michigan in Taiwan should lead to closer bilateral exchanges and bring fruitful results.
During a meeting with visiting Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Tsai praised the U-S state as a "global hub" for the automotive industry and a place where many Taiwanese auto parts businesses have chosen to invest.
Tsai said Michigan's automotive and semiconductor sectors and expertise in microelectronics research and Taiwan's electric vehicle and semiconductor supply chains will enable the two sides to "establish secure supply chains and industrial clusters."
Tsai further said she hopes to see even more fruitful collaboration between Taiwan and Michigan.
Meanwhile, Whitmer praised Tsai for her achievements while in office - especially her work to strengthen US-Taiwan ties - which she said "are growing closer every day."
Whitmer arrived in Taiwan on Monday to formally opened the Michigan office in Taipei.
