Industry Group Supports Electricity Rate Hikes and Migrant Labor

The head of the National Association of Industry and Commerce says its members fully understand the need to raise electricity prices and support government plans allow migrant workers from India into Taiwan.
According to Thomas Wu, the association believes increases in electricity rates are a necessary response to the global situation and the rising cost of raw materials ...
... but the government needs to draft supporting measures to mitigate the impact of rate hikes.
Wu says the association also knows that Taiwan needs more overseas workers in order to mitigate a serious manpower shortage and that migrant labor will not "replace domestic workers, but supplement the vacancies left by them."
The comments come as the Ministry of Economic Affairs is set to meet next month discuss possible adjustments to electricity rates.
