Passing of General Liu Ho-chien, Former Chief of General Staff

General Liu Ho-chien (劉和謙), the former Chief of the General Staff, passed
away today at the age of 97.

The Ministry of National Defense will assist with funeral arrangements for
the respected four-star general.

Liu's distinguished career included roles as the Navy's Commander-in-Chief,
Director of the Joint Operations Division, and strategic advisor to the
Presidential Office.

He significantly contributed to Taiwan's naval capabilities, notably securing
submarines from the Netherlands despite financial and logistical challenges.

Liu's efforts were pivotal in maintaining the naval power balance in the
Taiwan Strait.

His tenure saw appointments as a strategic advisor by four Taiwanese
Presidents, and he was awarded the prestigious Order of Blue Sky and White
Sun with Grand Cordon for his service.
