Billiards coach and commentator Zhang Ming-xiong has told local media that Yang died of cancer.
Yang was one of Taiwan's top pool players on the international scene and is regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation covering the late 1990s and early 2000s.
He earned the nickname "Son of Pool" for what many saw as his excellence with a cuestick.
Yang began playing pool professionally in 1996 and became the youngest champion of the All Japan Championship in 1996 at the age of 18.
His best finish at the World Pool Championships was third, when he reached the tournament's semifinals in 2002.
Yang announced his retirement from professional pool in 2010.
