Miaoli County has recorded its first case of Japanese encephalitis this year.
The county Health Bureau says the patient is a 48-year-old woman from Yuan-li (苑裡) Township who is currently receiving treatment.
Officials say the woman has not traveled abroad recently, and the Bureau has initiated vector mosquito control efforts near her residence and areas of activity.
They say symptoms of Japanese encephalitis are similar to those of the flu, including fever, headache, nasea, and vomiting, and clinics in the county provide free vaccination for young children against the disease.
