Haikui latest at 9am

Haikui is now a severe tropical storm.

The typhoon was downgraded as it drifted in waters off southern Taiwan.

Its now located approximately 50 kilometers west north west of Tainan, or
about 190 kilometers west of Penghu, and moving at 9 kilometers an hour,

Land and sea warnings remain in effect.

Rain advisories are also in effect for much of the island, particularly in
Hualien County, and mountainous areas of Taichung City and Yilan County.

And the Central Weather Bureau's strong wind advisory remains in place for
central, eastern, and southern Taiwan, through to this afternoon.

Haikui is the first typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan since 2019.
