It's been another day of heat alerts from Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau. The CWB issued an "orange" heat alert for Taipei, and another alert for Keelung, New Taipei, Tainan and Kaohsiung cities, as well as Yunlin, Pingtung, Taitung and Hualien counties, signaling three consecutive days of potential 36-degree highs.
The bureau issued a "yellow" heat alert for Hsinchu, Miaoli, Changhua, Nantou and Chiayi counties and Taoyuan, Taichung and Chiayi cities, meaning that daily maximum temperature could reach 36 degrees.
The heat warnings are in effect into late this afternoon.
The bureau also forecast a chance of swells in coastal areas in eastern and southeastern Taiwan, including Orchid Island and Green Island, due to the effects of a tropical depression in the South China Sea.
The tropical depression was expected to develop into this year's fourth tropical storm as it moves toward China's Guangdong province.
The storm is not expected to hit Taiwan but forecasters said its periphery would bring rain.
Meteriologist said that, affected by the tropical storm and a monsoon, Taiwan could experience thunderstorms and severe weather conditions, including thunderstrikes, strong winds, and momentary torrential rains around noon until July 19.
