Kolas Yotaka Resigns from Presidential Office Post

Presidential Office spokeswoman Kolas Yotaka has resigned following reports she had an affair with a married police officer.
The officer served as her bodyguard during her run for Hualien County magistrate last year.
Kolas' resignation has been approved by President Tsai Ing-wen effective immediately.
She tendered her resignation after Mirror Media published a report which claimed Kolas often traveled between Taipei and Hualien, where she stayed with the police officer after losing last year's election and regained her post as Tsai's spokesperson.
The report also claimed the two tried to have a child together and the relationship came to light after the police officer's wife filed a lawsuit against Kolas at the Hualien District Court for "infringing upon her spousal rights."
A spokesperson for the Presidential Office says Kolas tendered her resignation to avoid being a distraction and having a negative impact on public affairs.
Kolas has called the Mirror Media report exaggerated.
