International media organizations are continuing to urge the United Nations to grant all journalists access to its events, after two Taiwanese reporters were denied access to the week's World Health Assembly in Geneva.
The International Federation of Journalists is calling for the U-N and its affiliate organizations to respect press freedom and allow unrestricted access to all journalists regardless of nationality.
The federation has joined the Association of Taiwan Journalists in issuing a statement saying denying press accreditation to verified journalists, particularly at events of global importance "poses a distinct threat to press freedom."
Meanwhile, Reporters Without Borders East Asia Bureau Director Cedric Alviani says such moves are discriminatory and unacceptable.
