NCC's budget for lawsuits soared over the past 3 years

The NCC's budget for lawsuits and legal consultations have soared over the
past 3 years to 13 million NT this year.

KMT lawmaker Hong Meng-kai questioned National Communications Commission
chair Chen Yao-xiang on the issue yesterday, saying the budget is nearly 9
times the number in 2020.

Hong says when Chen's predecessor Zhan Yi-ting served as the chair from 2018
to 2020, the budget stayed at 1.5 million NT every year.

He says since Chen took office, the number of lawsuits filed against the
regulator has increased quickly, with at least 20 of them involving CTI News,
the TV channel that the NCC punished multiple times before shutting it down
in 2020.

In response, Chen said his agency "was forced to defend its decisions" as it
was usually the defendants in the lawsuits.
