The TPP legislative caucus is urging the Central Election Commission and health authorities to protect the voting rights of those testing positive of COVID-19 and under quarantine.
TPP lawmaker Qiu Chen-yuan has accused the C-E-C of running against the Constitution when it refused to make special arrangements for those people.
Qiu says on election day of the U.S. President in November , 2020, all voters went ahead to vote as long as they were wearing masks and kept social distance.
He says in South Korea, voting time was extended one and a half hours in March this year to allow the confirmed cases of coronavirus to vote, while in Japan, special laws were passed in June for the patients to mail in their ballots in July.
Noting that Taiwan can very well adopt similar measures, Qiu says the CEC should not deprive an estimated 300-thousand people of their civil rights to vote.
The TPP is also calling on the Legislative Yuan to pass the act of absentee ballots as soon as possible so that who don't live in where household registrations are can still vote.
