A delegation led by Legislative Yuan Speaker You Si-kun has held talks with
members of the French Senate in Paris.

The delegation was received by Senator Olivier Cadic and Alain Richard, the
head of the French Senate's Taiwan Friendship Group.

The Taiwanese delegation says French senators expressed their support for
bolstering Taiwan-France relations and said the two sides should work
together to address global challenges and jointly safeguard democracy given
their shared values.

The French senators also expressed hope to strengthen economic and trade
cooperation with Taiwan's semiconductor industry.

While two sides touched on a number of other issues during the talks,
including ending capital punishment in Taiwan.

The Taiwanese delegation is being cited as telling the French lawmakers that
abolishing capital punishment requires amending the island's laws and a
changes in public opinion.

The trip to France comes after the delegation visited to the Czech Republic
and Lithuania last week.
