Applications for the government's new rent subsidy program for Taiwanese
citizens open today.

Means-tested monthly subsidies of up to 11,200 N-T will distributed to
successful applicants from October.

The program was first announced in March.

Premier Su Tseng-chang says the program will be accepting online applications
for the 2022 fiscal year from today until August 31 and successful applicants
will have their first-month subsidy wired to their bank account on October 3.

Su is describing the new scheme as a "significant" policy toward achieving
"housing justice", as it increases subsidies for young singles, newlywed
couples, families with young children, and socially and economically
disadvantaged families.

Under the new scheme, the program is being expanded so that 500,000
individuals will receive subsidies, up from the current 120,000.

The Interior Ministry says the government is allocating 30-billion N-T
annually for the new program from 2022 to 2025.
