The New Taipei's Health Department says it has fined 18-year-old 1.5-million N-T for violating his mandatory quarantine order after having tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to city health officials, the teenager tested positive on April 14, which meant that he and his family were required to undergo the new 10-day stay-at-home quarantine in their residence in the Sanxia District.
However, he breached his quarantine order this weekend to go out and play basketball with friends and go shopping for a birthday present for his girlfriend, who has also now tested positive for the disease.
He documented those activities by posting on his Instagram account.
Screen-captures for those postings were taken by a netizen who sent to the health authorities.
The teenager initially attempted to deny violating his home quarantine order when police and health officials visited his home.
The 1.5-million N-T fines is the heaviest issued by the New Taipei City government since the pandemic began.
