Taoyuan Opens Riverside Bike Paths

Taoyuan has opened a network of riverside bike paths along the Nan-kan River.

Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wen-tsan says the government has invested $115-million NT
to improve Nan-kan River and create the 27-kms of paths suitable for cycling,
jogging, and other leisure activities.

Zheng says improvements were also made to the natural environment, and the
effort has paid off with the return of vegetation and wading birds.

Officials say riverside park areas will be lit up at night to create a safe
environment for the public to enjoy, but artificial lighting will be kept out
of areas with sensitive wildlife.
