A recall proposal against independent lawmaker Freddy Lim has been sent to the Central Election Commission.
The group that initiatled the proposal has gathered 3,500 signatures in support.
The group stresses that this is not a political move; instead, it is motivated by Lim's failure to serve and help those in his electoral district.
Lim was elected to a second term in 2020 as an independent after serving his first term as an NPP lawmaker.
His electoral district of Taipei's Wan-hua suffered a great deal during the outbreak of COVID-19 in May and June, and Lim was widely seen as uncaring about his constituents' plight.
The group says during their petition campaign, the complaint that they heard the most about Lim is that he was never available.
According to election laws, the first phase of the recall vote requires the support of 1-percent of the district's 244,700 eligible voters, followed by a second phase to collect 10-percent of the eligible voters' signatures.
